The Sun X4600 M2 servers combine power efficiency with high performance features, reliability, and expandability into a space-efficient 4U rack-mount form factor. Scale from 4 to 32 computing cores with the Sn Fire X4600, which supports 2, 4, 6, or 8 quad- or dual-core AMD Opteron processors, which are on a CPU interconnect with a HyperTransport speed of 1GHz, 8Gbps, and support the AMD Dual Dynamic Power Management™ in the quad-core processors. In the Sun X4600 M2 servers:

• the enhanced quad-core processors have 4 x 512KB L2 cache and 6MB L3 cache
• the quad-core processors have 4 x 512KB L2 cache and 2MB L2 cache
• the dual-core processors have 2 x 1MB L2 cache

The Sun Fire X4600 servers include 8 memory DIMM slots for each CPU socket, supporting DDR2 667MHz ECC registered memory, making memory scalable up to 512GB in a single system. For I/O expansion bus, the Sun X4600 M2 systems include 8 low-profile PCI expansion slots including 6 PCIe, and 2 x 64-bit 100MHz PCI-X.

The Sun Fire X4600 servers features a four-channel SAS interface, supporting hot-swappable 2.5" disks, including 73GB or 146GB 10K RPM drives, or 73GB 15K RPM drives. There are a wide variety of external disk options available for the Sun X4600 M2 servers.
