The Sun Fire X2250 servers are ideal for demanding HPC applications as well as Web 2.0 workloads, with a dual-socket architecture that features dual-core Intel Xeon CPUs running at 3.4GHz, as well as quad-core Xeon CPUs that support 2.0GHz up to 3.16GHz clock speeds in a 1U form factor. In addition, there is a low-power, quad-core CPU option featuring Intel Xeon 50W processors running at 2.5GHz. The FSB (front-side bus) supports up to 1,600 MHz per CPU, and the dual-core processors have 8MB of L2 cache, while the quad-core CPUs have 12MB of L2 cache.

Memory is scalable to 32GB of 800MHz or 667MHz ECC memory, and for networking, there are two on-board Intel Gigabit Ethernet network interface cards, and one 10/100 MbE NIC for network management

Sun X2250 M2 RAID & Storage

With up to dual hot-pluggable SATA bays, the Sun Fire X2250 can support up to two 3.5" 1TB, 500GB, or 250GB 7,200RPM SATA drives. Support for RAID 0/1 is built into the Xeon 5400 series processors supported by the servers, and there are a number of optional RAID arrays, JBODs, tapes, and HBAs compatible with these servers.
