The Sun Fire SPARC Enterprise T5240 severs pack a lot of features in a 2U form factor, including space for up to 256GB of memory, 16 disk drives, two 3rd generation UltraSPARC T2 processors for a total of up to 128 computing threads per system. These dual-socket systems feature the UltraSPARC T2 Plus processors, with Chip Multithreading Technology (CMT), one floating point unit per core, on-board cryptography acceleration, and 4MB of integrated L2 cache. The Sun T5240 servers support 1.2GHz and 1.4GHz quad-, 6-, or 8-core CPUs, with 8 computing threads per core.

The Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 server feature 32 FB DIMMS slots with support for 8GB low voltage 1.55V DIMMS, scaling from 8GB up to 256GB of memory in a single system. In addition, these servers include 4 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and I/O and network capabilities can be expanded with an optional expansion bus. The external expansion bus includes 4 dedicated x8-lane PCIe expansion slots, and room for 2 more 8-lane PCIe slots of 10 Gigabit Ethernet with the XAUI option.

Sun T5240 RAID & Storage

The Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 servers support up to 16 of the 73GB, 146GB, or 300GB 2.5" SAS drives. In addition, with the Sun T5240, you can choose to integrate up to 8 high-performance 32GB 2.5" Solid-State Drives (SSDs). Internal drive mirroring, RAID 1, is included, as well as support for RAID 0 and RAID 1.
