With the new UltraSPARC T2 processors featuring a “system on a chip”, the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 servers can pack 4, 6 or 8 computing cores that support 8 threads per core for up to 64 simultaneous threads in this single-socket, 2U system. In addition to being space-efficient, the Sun T5220 servers are also power-efficient, drawing 95W nominal power loads, fewer than 2 watts per computing thread.

With 16 FB DIMM slots, there is support for up to 128GB of memory in a single system, the Sun T5220 servers are ideal for massively-scalable web application serving and data-intensive operations, as well as virtualization projects.

There are a number of I/O and networking options that come with the Sun SPARC Enterprise T5220 servers as well. In addition to the four 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet connections, with the XAUI option, the T5220 has two optional 10GbE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) connections. The Sun SPARC T5220 servers can expand on I/O performance and expandability with an I/O expansion unit, supporting, 2 x8-lane PCIe, 2 x4-lane PCIe, and 2 x4-lane PCIe or XAUI.

Sun T5220 RAID & Storage

For internal disk storage, the Sun SPARC T5220 servers can support up to 16 2.5" SAS drives, at 73GB, 146GB, or 300GB sizes. In addition, the Sun T5220 can support high-performance 2.5" SSDs, up to 8 x 32GB per server internally. Internal hardware disk mirroring, or RAID 1, is supported, as well as RAID 0 disk striping.
