Packing up to four processors, with the choice of either SPARC64 VII quad-core or SPARC64 VI dual-core CPUs, the Sun M4000 servers are designed for consolidation and virtualization projects. The Sun M4000 servers include mainframe-class RAS features normally only included with high-end systems, at a midrange price and form factor.

Processors and memory and interconnected with the I/O subsystem with a new crossbar switch interconnect system that supports 32Gbps peak, and 12.566Gbps stream via the system bandwidth bus, up to 8Gbps peak with I/O.
