Combine a modular blade server architecture with Itanium® 2 CPUs for HPC SGI’s newest midrange servers, the Altix 450, deliver up to 2.5 times the performance of their previous generation Altix 350 servers, in a unique blade architecture, at a lower cost.
These dual-socket blades feature the new dual-core Intel® Itanium® 2 chips. This modular architecture can fit up to 76 sockets in a tall rack, and supports up to 38 sockets in a single system image. Blade-to-NUMAlink™ architecture gives eight choices of blade servers, each with interchangeable memory, I/O and compute power. In addition, the NUMAflex™ architecture makes up to 456GB of memory globally available for each instance of Linux in your system.
In addition to the compute blades with Itanium 2 chips, you can also choose memory-only blades, which fit up to 24GB DDR-2 memory per blade, adding to your system’s shared memory pool without purchasing unnecessary software licenses & CPUs. In addition to base I/O blades, there are:
available, allowing you to scale I/O separately. You can also choose to install SGI’s RC100 RASC™ blades for FPGA computing.
Designed specifically for demanding uses such as high performance computing, SGIs Altix 450 servers combine industry-standard architecture with a high-performance backplane. With their patented NUMAflex and NUMAlink architectures, the Altix 450 is ideal for HPC Linux® workloads, and runs on Novell® SUSE Enterprise Linux® or Red Hat® Enterprise Linux.
