SAN Integration

The I/O blade architecture featured in the Scalar i500 tape library is designed to improve reliability in SAN environments. In addition, this I/O architecture enables seamless integration & operation, and reduces switch port & cabling requirements by 75%.

The management software of the Scalar i500 unifies library, drive and SAN connectivity into a single GUI, accessible remotely or locally. With integrated performance optimization and proactive data path monitoring between all hosts & each drive, you can ensure that the entire system is ready to perform the backup.

RAS Features

Built for enterprise-class environments, the Scalar i500 deliver enterprise-class RAS features. Full 2N power redundancy eliminates single-points-of-failure in the power system, and the FC port failover functionality automatically re-routes data if a library or switch port, or cabling connection fails.

The Scalar i500 tape library also offers configuration protection, which stores all configuration data & event logs on flash memory. This data can be backed up outside the library, providing for the quick & automatic transfer of a library's configuration data & diagnostic history to a replacement controller, for fast recovery & simplified management.

Advanced Scalability

In addition to the hot-swappability of tape drive in the Scalar i500 midrange tape library, the ease of adding expansion modules enables fast and effortless scalability without affecting performance or reliability.

For example, a single robotics systems serves the entire system, regardless of the amount of expansion modules. Scale an entire i500 to capacity without having to depend on complex tape transfer systems such as pass-through ports or elevators, and the expansion modules slide into place quickly, without the need for additional mounting hardware.

Management Functionality

The Scalar i500 midrange tape libraries include advanced manageability features. The i500 features native SMI-S so it can be managed via standard storage resource management tools, enabling it & other i500 tape solutions to be managed with their disk & fabric resources via a single, unified interface.

In addition to the wizard-based install & setup interface, troubleshooting & service can be resolved via intuitive service wizards. Drive usage reports and media integrity analysis can be performed to diagnose & manage resources remotely.

Security Features

The Scalar i500 includes the Quantum Security Framework, which allows for flexible integration with standard data encryption & key management architectures, to protect data and maintain compliance with various government regulations.

LTO-4 technology offers native AES 256-bit encryption, allowing for full drive performance & compression.
