The Scalar i2000 is a tape library for the next generation, integrating advanced backup functions to increase overall data protection, simplify management, and reduce the need for external servers and software. Designed for SAN integration and operation, this data-center tape backup system will increase the performance and availability of your storage network operation and backup.
The I/O blade architecture featured in the Scalar i2000 tape library is designed to improve reliability in SAN environments. In addition, this I/O architecture enables seamless integration & operation, and reduces switch port & cabling requirements by 75%.
The management software of the Scalar i2000 unifies library, drive and SAN connectivity into a single GUI, accessible remotely or locally. With integrated performance optimization and proactive data path monitoring between all hosts & each drive, you can ensure that the entire system is ready to perform the backup.
Built for enterprise-class environments, the Scalar i2000 deliver enterprise-class RAS features. Full 2N power redundancy eliminates single-points-of-failure in the power system, and the FC port failover functionality automatically re-routes data if a library or switch port, or cabling connection fails.
The Scalar i2000 expands without disruption, allowing for capacity-on-demand scalability. The industry's first true drive hot swap means that drives can be changed, with the new drive presenting the same worldwide node name & serial number as the replaced drives, eliminating the need to cycle power, rebuild software profile, or reboot backup servers when replacing drives. The i2000 even matches the firmware level of the new drive to the other drives, based on user-defined policies.
Controller Modules - this module contains the main controller, power supplies, I/O blade, operator panel touch screen, 24-slot import/export mailbox, and library robotics
Expansion Modules - additional drive space and cartridge slots, and may be configured with an import/export mailbox for bulk loading & unloading of media

The Scalar i2000 intelligent, enterprise-class tape libraries include advanced manageability features. The i2000 includes integrated SMI-S so it can be managed via standard SRM tools, and it is designed to support integration with other leading disk-based solutions. Drive usage reports and media integrity analysis can be performed to diagnose & manage resources remotely.
