Serial ATA disk RAIDs and arrays have emerged as a proven, cost-effective storage protocol to rival Fibre channel.

SATA throughput speeds are not as high as fibre, but at 4Gbps, SATA RAID is an attractive option for nearline storage and D2D (disk to disk) backup solutions. For many small and medium businesses, SATA is more than sufficient for inband storage too.
