Capacity on Demand with IBM POWER6™IBM Power systems include the ability to add additional memory and processing power on demand. These reserve resources can be activated in a number of ways, and as small as 1 processor or 1GB of memory can be enabled when needed, enabling you to only pay for what you have activated, with affecting or disrupting operating.
CoD features are included with all Power 595, Power 575, Power 570, and the M50 models of the Power 550 servers, and the M25 models of the Power 520 servers.
CUoD enables business to grow as planned, and only pay for computing power when it is purchased. Processors and memory can be brought online dynamically, without interrupting system or partition operations. No additional hardware is needed, and no contract needs to be signed. As small as 1 processor or 1GB of additional memory can be ordered online and activated via a code sent from IBM.
An additional contract is required for On/Off Capacity on Demand, but this feature allows additional computing power and main system memory to be turned on, on-the-fly, in temporary increments as small as one day. Ideal for fluctuating workloads, and for responding to business peaks like month-end or the holiday season, you will be billed quarterly for the additional processor and memory days your business used.
Utility Capacity on Demand further enables the flexibility of your business and IT architecture, allowing for the activation of processing power by the minute, to handle peaks in usage. Ideal for handling short, unpredictable workload spikes, this automated solution ensures adequate server performance.
You have the ability to request trial capacity on a one-time basis, enabling additional processing and memory resources for application, resource and workload testing. This request is handled right over the web.

All by enabling various editions of PowerVM™ (Express, Standard, or Enterprise). 5250 OLTP capabilities can be ordered as needed as well, requiring an activation code that can be requested online.
