Meets Solutions
Assuring business continuance and achieving regulatory compliance in regards to proper data storage and retention policies can be a complicated and expensive endeavor for IT staffs. If there are various data repositories throughout the enterprise, and each location is responsible for backing up their local data, your IT staff has minimal control over backup processes, integrity or security.
Although backing up to tape remains an economical solution, tapes can be difficult to track and secure, and oftentimes have a high occurrence of failure, and can take days to restore from.
Although some organizations have attempted to migrate to a networked, centralized backup solution, inadequate software can lead to unnecessary network congestion and an overwhelming amount of data if the solutions re-copies complete files every time it performs a backup.
Tracking and properly backing up various data repositories throughout the enterprises can be economical, centrally manageable and reliable with Pillar Data.
Pillar Data and North American Systems can help you develop a centralized backup to disk solution to help alleviate the risks associated with distributed tape backup solutions that require complete copies of every file during every backup.
North American Systems can setup a system that allows administrators to establish backup policies for each data repository, and let the Axiom File Replicator automatically copy data to cost-effective Pillar Data Axiom™ storage solution SATA disks.
Although many storage vendors promise SAN and NAS convergence to simplify backup procedures, they can rarely deliver on these promises. Pillar Data can deliver a truly qualified end-to-end solution so you can effectively unite SAN and NAS environments and consolidate backup operations on a single system.
Pillar Data leverages existing industry standard and practices currently recommended by SNIA, FCIA, and T11, and delivers a product that successfully interoperates with various:
EMC RepliStor - this application is Windows-only (Pillar provides heterogeneous support), and doesn't provide proof of delivery such as digital signatures (Pillar utilizes x.509 digital certificates).
NetApp Filer w/SnapVault and SnapMirror - only supports NetApp-to-Netapp (Pillar provides support to and from NetApp, EMC, HP, Sun, and IBM). In addition to the costly and inflexible implementation, you must also have DFM (Data Fabric Monitor), which adds costs and complexity.
NSI DoubleTake - No support for Unix, no digital signatures, and doesn't encrypt data during transmission (Pillar Data can an of four levels of encryption, include 3 DES and AES).
Veritas Storage Replicator - Windows0-only, and depends on Veritas FileSystem for some capabilities. No encryption of data, no standby failover, and no centralized, automated policy management.
