Nexsan SASBoyThe Nexsan SASBoy features the combination of mixing and matching 14 disks in a single 3U drive enclosure to provide superior performance and capacity to address a wide variety of storage requirements in a single RAID array. Featuring Nexsan’s browser based mangement interface, NexScan®, these RAID arrays eliminate the need to have a separate server or application to manage the storage array. In addition, the Nexsan SASBoy RAID arrays also supports email alerts, SNMP traps, and includes an RS-232 management port.
The SASBoy allows the mixing and matching of SAS, SSD and SATA drives to balance between performance and capacity requirements in a single chassis. In addtion, RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 4, 5, & 6 with global hot spares.
This RAID array is OS-independent, requiring no special drivers, and includes enterprise-class features such as LUN security, and supports multiple RAID sets, or configureed into a large single storage pool. Mulitple volumes per set can be supported in the Nexsan SASBoy, and up to 254 total LUNs per array can be supported.
Flexibility is also provided with a number of host connectivity options and wire-speed performance. The SASBoy can support iSCSI or FC connectivity, or both simultaneously. Each controller includes dual RAID engines and 2GB of battery-protected cache, as well as dual 4Gbps Fibre channel and dual iSCSI ports. Each SASBoy supports dual active/active controllers, for up to 4 RAID engines and 4GB of cache per RAID array.
The Nexsan SASBoy RAID array is highly available & reliable, with dual power supplies and quad-redundant cooling fan blowers. All disks and other key components in the SASBoy data storage system are hot-swappable and field-replaceable. Other reliability, availability and serviceability features include:
Nexsan’s patented MAID (Massive Array of Idle Disks) technology, AutoMAID, is designed to provide real cost savings by reducing the energy requirements & thermal output of unused drives. This feature comes standard on all of Nexsan’s SASBoy disk arrays, and provides transparent cost savings without requiring any software changes. AutoMAID allows IT to choose what combination of cost savings and performance requirements fits their business needs, with three levels of “idleness”:
Level 1: at this level, disks can achieve 15% - 20% savings by unloading the head. The disks keep spinning though, providing sub-second recovery times.
Level 2: achieve 35% - 45% savings by unloading the heads and slowing the disk down to 4000 RPM. At this level, recovery times average 15 seconds.
Level 3: maximize your savings by stopping the disk spin and putting it into sleep mode, but powered on. This level provides 60% - 75% savings, and 30-45 second recovery times.
Data is continuously verified with Nexsan’s AutoMAID technology, which performs periodic surface scans to ensure data integrity.
