IBM’s System Cluster 1600 can run any combination of POWER5 and POWER5+ servers to run a AIX5L™, SUSE Linux®, or Red Hat Linux cluster. Ideal for business intelligence & data mining, computation modeling, server & workload consolidation, and datacenter applications, the Cluster 1600 features CSM (cluster systems management) software to enable administrators to deploy, centrally manage, and scale clusters.

The IBM System Cluster 1600 can support up to 128 separate LPARs or systems in a single cluster in a standard configuration, and can scale beyond that as needed. With this cluster system, you have the option of interconnecting nodes via 1Gbps-10Gbps Ethernet, Infiniband, or Myrinet.

These cluster systems also feature software suites to create and tune parallel computing application, including:

• Engineering & Scientific Subroutine Library (ESSL)
• Parallel ESSL
• Parallel Environment
• XL Fortran
• VisualAge C++

to create, tune and run clustered applications. The Cluster 1600 also features:

• GPFS (General Parallel File System) as the cluster file system
• LoadLeveler® to schedule jobs and optimize resource optimization
• HACMP & HACMP/XD for high availability and continuous access to data

as well as the the ability to logically partition clusters with multiple HMCs (hardware management console).
