FalconStor HotZone®FalconStor’s IPStor HotZone feature maximizes your storage area network’s performance by automatically remapping data that is frequently accessed by users, to higher performance virtual disk devices. The administrator of your SAN simply has to specify your best-performing disk device (HotZone disk), and IPStor takes care of the rest.
This policy-based approach lets you maximize your new SAN and disk investments, like SSDs (solid state disks), and maintains the value of some of your legacy equipment, by keeping the most frequently accessed and edited data on the fastest disks. No need to improve the performance of legacy disk device, since they are storing infrequently accessed data.
This feature is almost like ILM (Information Lifecycle Management), but without the automating of loading older data to slower devices. HotZone purely looks at the number of requests for data, and puts that data on the fastest disks, for the fastest access times.
After the administrator divides your virtual or service enabled disk with data on it, into zones of equal size, HotZone automatically re-allocates frequently accessed data throughout the storage area network, to the high performance or solid state disks, which greatly improves read/write performance.
This software continually monitors the reads/writes of these frequently-accessed hot-zones, and if the software determines that the zone is no longer “hot”, it automatically remaps the zones to their original zone on the virtual or service-enabled disk.
