Reliable enterprise chassis switch with enhanced modularity The Force10 E300 enterprise chassis switch is the entry-level product of the Terascale E-Series switch/router models. This line of Gigabit Ethernet switching and routing hardware offers enterprise-class resiliency, scalability and performance. The Force10 E300 features full L2 switching and L3 routing capabilities. Ideal for applications spanning LANs, MANs and WANs like Clustering, Grid Computing, Campus backbones, next-gen Internet Exchanges, and Metro Ethernet Services.
The E300 features a unique non-block architecture that provides 56.25 Gbps bandwidth to each line card, as well as advanced queuing, jumbo frame support and multicasting, including:
IPv6 is also supported in the Force10 E300, including:
The system control plane of the Force10 E300 is distinct from the data plane, and offers three processors for each Route Processor Module (RPM).
This architecture enhances resiliency with built-in fault containment, protecting against problems like spanning tree loops and DoS attacks without disruption. In addition, all RPMs have a dedicated 100Mbps paths to each line card to prevent against the performance degradation that can occur with slow forwarding table updates.
Fault- tolerance is also enhanced with its passive copper backplane which has no single-point-of-failure. In addition, all RPMs, Switch Fabric Modules (SFMs) and power supplies (AC & DC) are redundant as well, and all memory in the E300 is ECC/parity-protected. Serviceability and availability features are built into the Force10 Networks E300, with hot-swappable key components and built-in cable management, in addition to front-side access to cabling and cards.
The unified operating software featured in all Force10 networking equipment, FTOS, allows the management of the E300 to be simplified and supports advanced management functionality, including granular traffic monitoring, management & accounting and:
Congestion can be controlled via WRED & WFQ, and packets can filtered via ACLs, and metered and marked for rate limiting and policing. Advanced QoS features include egress rate shaping, weighted fair queuing, and up to 8 traffic classes/port for conditioning.

The modular architecture of all the E-Series Terascale Force10 enterprise chassis, including the E300, enabling the switching architecture to dynamically change to accommodate changing environments & requirements. The E300 includes 6 line-card slots, and line-card in the E-Series are compatible across the entire line, designed to work in any E1200, E600, or E300 RPM.
The E300 includes the ability to upgrade in the future to new Ethernet technologies such as 400 Gigabit Ethernet when needed. With a 5 Tbps backplane, this chassis has the ability to delivery 330Gbps throughput to each slot. This allows the upgrade to 40 Gigabit Ethernet to occur without forklift upgrades. Once the new technology is available, your infrastructure will be ready.
