Meets Solutions
IPStor appliances and the NASI Storage Core can include the IPStor TimeMark technology, which allows you to create automated and instantaneous point-in-time snapshots of files, records, or entire volumes of data. Highly reliable, instant recovery of files, records, or volumes is easy-to-do, by mounting a previous TimeMark volume as an active volume with the included TimeView® feature. This software:
Disk space is conserved by saving only the data changes, or delta snapshots of volumes. You can take up to 256 delta snapshots per volume. Combine TimeMark with HyperTrac Backup Accelerator to provide fast and comprehensive backups of live data that require 24x7 availability and point-in-time consistency.
As the delta snapshots are created, administrators can easily create multiple copies of the active data set or replica copies. These copies can then be assigned to multiple application servers for concurrent, independent processing, while keeping the original data set available and accessible to be updated. This functionality is great for testing, development, and instant recovery.
TimeMark servers as the foundation of the FalconStor Continuous Online Backup and Continuous Nearline Backup for full, incremental, or differential automated backup to your choice of third-party disk, without having to purchase backup software.
Snapshots can be backed up during business hours, because the IPStor appliance takes the backup load away from application servers, so performance and data integrity is not compromised. TimeMark is necessary if you want to use third-party backup software from companies like BakBone and Veritas, because it will give you the functionality to perform full, incremental, or differential backup, and without it, you can only backup full databases and/or message store, not just delta blocks.
