FalconStor NSS data storage software extends your local physical and virtual server protection to remote sites via IP-based remote replication. Branch offices can replicate data, to eliminate the need for branch offices to make remote-site tape backups.
DR automation and recovery testing is greatly simplified with FalconStor NSS. With tape-based backup, recovery testing is oftentimes skipped because it is such a lengthy, complex process, but with FalconStor NSS, mountable TimeView snapshots can be easily produced for testing scenarios, and then used to boot standby servers without affecting product or current data protection operations.
In addition, these snapshots can be used for testing and development, to ensure that patches and upgrades work as intended before they are deployed to production servers. The FalconStor NSS-created TimeView snapshots can be used to boot an identical reproduction of a server, where updates can be applied, and the results verified.
With the HyperTrac Backup Accelerator option offered with FalconStor NSS, snapshots can be automatically mounted from NSS backup servers to virtual tape libraries like FalconStor VTL. This way, application are not impacted because the backup occurs from the NSS storage directly to the tape, providing a centralized, serverless, LAN-free backup process that gets rid of the need for backup software clients, and eliminates backup windows.
FalconStor NSS reduces bandwidth and its association costs by optimizing its WAN replication processes. FalconStor NSS includes encryption and compression technology to make WAN-based replication consume less bandwidth, with its unique MicroScan technology, which can detect changes at the sub-block level, resulting in reducing bandwidth requirements by as much as 70% to 90%.
In addition, the open nature of the FalconStor NSS software enables any storage device to replicate to any other type of storage device. For example, a production FC SAN can be replicated onto lower-cost SATA drives at the DR sites on backup server connected via iSCSI. In addition, remote branches using low-cost iSCSI storage and RAID can replicate back to the main FC SAN in the main data center as needed.
By leveraging synchronous data mirroring between disk arrays with FalconStor NSS data protection software, data storage can be moved from older disk arrays to newer disks without disruption. For fibre or iSCSI RAID disk arrays already managed by FalconStor NSS, simply connect the new array to the FalconStor NSS server, mirror the volumes with a simple point-and-click, and then take down the old array without having to suffer any application downtime.
