With the capacity for up to 1.25 PB of logical storage, the Data Domain DD580 deduplication appliance is ideal for regional or midsized data centers that require high-speed data deduplication for backup data.
In addition to Data Domain’s unique data de duplication algorithm and technologies such as Global Compression and Data Invulnerability for nearline workloads, disaster recovery, and multi-site data protection, the DD580 deduplication appliance also includes RAID6 capabilities to protect against simultaneous disk failures. Snapshot, Ethernet failover & aggregation, telnet, FTP & SSH are also included with the pre-installed software. Add-on options such as the Data Domain Replicator, and VTL over Fibre Channel, are available with the DD580.

With the Data Domain DD580 data deduplication backup appliance, changes don’t need to be made to existing backup packages or existing nearline storage.
The DD580 is compatible with Microsoft Exchange for email deduplication, and can work with NFS & CIFS NAS filesystems as well as all of the leading backup and recovery and archival software applications, including:
CommVaultand leading enterprise applications from Oracle, SAP, and IBM DB2.
The DD580 is also compatible with VMware for virtualized environments. In virtualized environments utilizing VMware VI (Virtual Infrastructure), replicating the large .vmdk (virtual disk) files and configuration files can dramatically increase backup requirements. Data Domain’s unique deduplication algorithm detects redundant sequences in these file, oftentimes resulting in storage reductions of 40X. In addition, data and .vmdk and configuration files can be backed up separately, so data can be replicated daily, but snapshots of vmdk’s and configuration files can be copied less frequently.
In addition, VMware works well in multi-site replication situations by utilizing incremental backup technology to eliminate the need to transfer data already at the backup site, as well as features like Global Compression, which help to further minimize the duplication of .vmdk files offsite for disaster recovery, and reduce bandwidth requirements of remote replication and WAN vaulting.
Data integrity features are integrated in the Data Domain DD580 data de-duplication appliance, to protect against corruption throughout the data backup lifecycle, ensuring that if critical information needs to be restored quickly onsite, it will be recoverable and verified.
