Designed for maximum performance with 10-20Gbps of throughput, the BlueArc Titan 3000 features 10GbE ports for high-performance NAS and iSCSI connectivity. The BlueArc Titan 3000 is also designed for maximum IOPS for transaction-intensive applications like databases and applications that require many small files to be served without sacrificing performance, like bioinformatics.

Advanced Clustering Capabilities

BlueArc LogoThe Titan features N-Way clustering with a Cluster Name Space (CNS) option for high availability. With CNS, the Titan offers a unified directory structure for global availability of data resources across the enterprise. Up to 8 nodes can go into a single cluster, scaling up to 4PB while allowing multiple storage tiers to be mixed.

Virtualization

The architecture of the BlueArc Titan 3000 is designed to optimized the convergence and consolidation efforts of enterprises that are leveraging virtualization technology. The BlueArc Titan 3000 can virtualize storage resources in the same way that VMware virtualizes server resources.

BlueArc can map “virtual servers” directly to VMware virtual machines or ESX servers spanning across multiple network domains, and can set different data management and security profiles for each server. Ideal for large enterprises with multiple departments, the BlueArc Titan 3000 service delivers rapid provisioning and easy administration of Titan resources.

Thin provisioning and storage pooling

The BlueArc Titan 3000 Series offers advanced storage pooling for consolidation with Thin Provisioning via Virtual Volumes, which are logical containers built on top of the file systems, which can dynamically expand and contract to meet changing storage requirements. Allowing for multi-level oversubscription of storage resources maximizing storage utilization, helping to control costs without negatively affecting performance.

Tiered storage

The BlueArc Titan 3000 Series storage systems are ideal for storage consolidation projects, allowing SAN and NAS to be converged onto a single platform that can accommodate various tiered storage systems with a mix of Fibre Channel, SATA and WORM on a single system. Administrators can then store data on the tier of storage that is appropriate for the type of data, allowing costs to be reduced while maintaining application performance requirements.

Modular Architecture

In addition to providing advanced investment protection by maximizing data center floor space and reducing power consumption, the bladed modular architecture of the BlueArc Titan 3000 Series also helps to contain costs throughout the lifecycle of the system. The unique architecture allows software and hardware to be upgraded, in-place.

BlueArc’s unique architecture provides investment protection by enabling enterprises to scale I/O, performance and capacity without requiring the purchase of a new systems, and allowing for the granular upgrade of storage systems, without having to purchase unnecessary components. Upgrades to firmware & hardware, and expansion of storage capacity can be done on the field, greatly reducing the need for “forklift” upgrades.

Network Interface Module

BlueArc Titan Network Interface ModuleThe BlueArc NIM carries out the networking and management tasks of the Titan systems. The Network Interface Modules support advanced management capabilities such as IEEE802.3ad link aggregation, and can handle transmitting and receiving from standard and jumbo Ethernet frames. Available in a configuration offering dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet fiber XFP interfaces, or one with six Gigabit Ethernet copper or fiber SFP interfaces, the Network Interface Module carries out the TCP, UDP, and IP processing at the hardware level, and a dedicated Ethernet and RS-232 interface is provided for management.

File System Modules

BlueArc Titan File System Module ABlueArc File System Modules are available in three configurations, FSA, FSX, & FSB, and carry out the filesystem execution operations. The FSA module is a general purpose file system module, while the FSX is an optional file system module that enables protocol acceleration for environments with large numbers of Windows clients or application servers.

BlueArc Titan File System Module BThe FSB file system module is a battery-backed NVRAM while protects against data loss in the event of unplanned downtime, and can be protected by a mirrored NVRAM in a clustered configuration. These modules are dedicated to protocol processing for CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, and NDMP, and are help deliver the high throughput and low latency the Titan is capable of. These modules also maximize the efficiency of directory searches and file lookups.

Storage Interface Module

BlueArc Storage Interface ModuleThe BlueArc SIM controls the RAID striping, disk & storage management, and provides a high-speed 10Gbps cluster interconnect for maximum performance. This hardware-level execution of parallel RAID striping across LUNs enables capacity to be added with a minimal impact on performance. In addition, the BlueArc Titan Storage Interface Modules have a massive disk cache for rapid access to frequently-used data.
