Enhanced Scalability

Designed to meet the rigors of transaction-intensive & analytical applications, the p550Q Express servers are built with IBM’s new Quad-Core Module (QCM) technology. Choose between one or two QCM modules that deliver 4-core power with two 1.5GHz or 1.65GHz POWER5+ processors. Each QCM comes standard with its own cache, and is designed to increase system throughput.

In addition the System p5 550Q server can:

• scale up to 64GB of DDR2 memory
• support up to 2.4TB internal disk
• have up to 8 I/O drawers, which can provide up t 31.2TB of disk and up to 59 hot-plug PCI-X slots
• be part of an HPC cluster

64-bit POWER5+ processing power

IBM’s fifth generation of POWER technology deliver 64-bit computing with advanced features like simultaneous multithreading, which allows you to run two concurrent application threads on the same processor.

Virtualization Engine™

The IBM System p5 510Q Express model comes with IBM’s Virtualization Standard, allowing you to utilize the server to consolidate multiple UNIX and Linux workloads on one system. In addition, Dynamic LPAR further enhances the virtualization capabilities of your p510Q, allowing you to allocate and re-allocate systems resources as needed. without rebooting.

Virtual LAN comes with the Virtualization Engine, and delivers a fast interconnect in between your partitions, speeding internal communications to memory speeds.

Advanced POWER Virtualization

This module is optional on the p510Q Express platform, and offers features like Micro-Partitioning and Virtual I/O Server (VIOS). These features further maximize the utilization of your system resources.

Micro-Partitioning lets you define partitions as small as 1/10th of a processor, and changed in increments as small as 1/100th of a processor.

VIOS for the System p5 510Q Express increases the amount of systems resources you can share between partitions, such as expensive disk drives. The VIOS includes the Integrated Virtualization Manager, a browser-based applications that greatly eases the amount of time and effort required to create and manage virtual devices & partitions.

Packaging & Configuration Flexibility

All of the System p5 550Q Express systems can be packaged as a deskside or rackmount system, you can implement this p5 system as a versatile departmental or branch server, or use it as a scalable server in your datacenter.

64-bit POWER5+ processing power

The POWER5+ chips are two-way simultaneous multithreaded dual-core chips, designed to maximize the utilization of your computing power. They also include dynamic resource balancing to ensure each thread receives their fair share of system resources, these cutting-edge processors each appear as a four-way symmetric multiprocessor to your software.

Reliability, Availability, Security (RAS)

The p550Q servers include many of the same RAS features included with the higher-end System p5 machines. Some of the RAS capabilities include:

• Chipkill™ ECC & bit-steering memory
• hot-swappable, redundant components
• dynamic deallocation of system components
• a sophisticated service processor

The System p5 550Q servers design logical partitions to be shielded from one another to prevent application running in one partition from violating security policies across partitions, for additional security.
