IBM eServer p5 Model 520 Express

North American Systems will work with you to help maximize the efficiency of your p520 machine, including enabling the LPAR functionality with IBM’s Virtualization Engine™. The 64-bit POWER5+™ processors, which all p5 servers run on, allow you to micro-partition virtual systems as small as 1/10th of a CPU.

You can run Linux and AIX 5L™ workloads simultaneously on the same chip with the p5, and IBM’s new dynamic logical partitioning functionality helps assign systems resources, including CPU, I/O and memory, for a faster, non-disruptive balancing of computing power on demand. Save money by fully utilizing your computing power, without having to constantly manage it.

Security

To ease the cost and complexity of security implementation and management, the IBM p5 servers have security built right into the computer, with EAL4+ (Evaluation Assurance Level 4+) and CAPP (Controlled Access Protection Profile) certification. These security functions prevent workloads on one partition from violating security and privacy policies across partitions. These servers also come with enhanced network filtering capabilities for security and intrusion detection.

AIX also automatically includes agents from Tivoli that offer easy integration with the identity management and directory services.

Automated Management

In addition to the intelligence that allows the p5 to dynamically allocate computing resources like LAN, I/O, RAM, and CPU, the newest pSeries generation also includes automated management tools designed to eliminate the need to perform repetitive activities, reducing the chance for disruption, making it easier to manage.

Workload Manager for AIX 5L allows for policy-based resource allocation. This manual allocation of resources further enables you to lower IT management costs, and improve application performance.

64-bit POWER5+ processing power

IBM’s fifth generation of POWER technology deliver 64-bit computing with advanced features like simultaneous multithreading, which allows you to run two concurrent application threads on the same processor.

Virtualization Engine™

The IBM System p5 510Q Express model comes with IBM’s Virtualization Standard, allowing you to utilize the server to consolidate multiple UNIX and Linux workloads on one system. In addition, Dynamic LPAR further enhances the virtualization capabilities of your p510Q, allowing you to allocate and re-allocate systems resources as needed. without rebooting.

Virtual LAN comes with the Virtualization Engine, and delivers a fast interconnect in between your partitions, speeding internal communications to memory speeds.

Advanced POWER Virtualization

This module is optional on the p510Q Express platform, and offers features like Micro-Partitioning and Virtual I/O Server (VIOS). These features further maximize the utilization of your system resources.

Micro-Partitioning lets you define partitions as small as 1/10th of a processor, and changed in increments as small as 1/100th of a processor.

VIOS for the System p5 510Q Express increases the amount of systems resources you can share between partitions, such as expensive disk drives. The VIOS includes the Integrated Virtualization Manager, a browser-based applications that greatly eases the amount of time and effort required to create and manage virtual devices & partitions.
