The DS8000 features many advanced management features, designed to enable and manage a tiered storage system. Choose between any combination of FATA (Fibre Channel over ATA) or Fibre Channel disk drives to create a tailored system that addresses all of your price, performance and capacity requirements.
With the IBM DS8000, you can utilize the built-in remote mirroring and copy functions, including Global Mirror, Metro Mirror and Global Copy. These features, which support synchronous and asynchronous protocols, enable the creation of duplicate mirrors and copies of your application data at remote sites for disaster recovery and backup functionality.
The IBM DS8000 scales from 1.1TB to over 320TB in a single system. In addition, the advanced capabilities of this disk system extends many of the traditional boundaries of logical volumes, devices, paths, logical subsystems and LUNS, eliminating many of the previous limitations of disk storage solutions.
The IBM DS8000 can supports heterogeneous storage across multiple applications and platforms. These disk systems can support up to 128 4Gbps Fibre Channel/FICON® ports or up to 64 IBM ESCON® ports. These disk systems features high performance on the front end, supports up to 400Mbps in a single port, and up to 4 ports per HBA, and up to 32 HBAs per system.
The disk cache efficiency further contributes to the DS8000’s high-end performance. The DS8000 disk systems can support up to 256GB of cache to improve I/O efficiency. In addition, the cache continually self-tunes to optimize for various workloads. In addition, the 64-bit POWER5+ processors reduce cycle times and increase responsiveness, providing users with fast access to data.
The availability features of the DS8000 disk solutions includes dynamic hardware upgrades, Light Path diagnostics, near-transparent I/O failover and failback, and concurrent microcode loads. In addition, many of the hardware components are redundant and hot-swappable, to minimize downtime.
The DS8300 model of the DS8000 disk systems features the virtualization technologies of the POWER5+ processor, with logical partitioning (LPAR) capabilities. Divide your DS8000 into two independent & unique storage environments that can run their own microcode, and continue to support various heterogeneous workloads. These LPAR features maximize the efficiency, flexibility and cost-effectiveness of your disk system.
