Excellent Performance in a modular package

The IBM DS6000 disk systems feature a cost-effective package with many of the enterprise-class features found in larger systems, and capacity designed to support Tier 1 and Tier 2 data.

The base unit of the DS6000 systems, the DS6800, fits up to 8TB of storage in a slim 3U form factor. Add up to seven expansion DS6000 units to maximize the utilization of your system, configuring a systems that meets the various performance-orientated & capacity-orientated storage needs of your heterogeneous computing environment.

Supporting FC/FICON® attachments to support the same wide range of server and operating systems, the DS6000 disk systems include many of the same attachment options as the ESS or DS8000 enterprise-class disk systems, in a smaller, modular configuration designed to scale on demand.

Capacity

The IBM DS6800 provides the ability to scale to 38.4TB with high-performance Fibre Channel drives, or up to 64TB with high-capacity FATA (Fibre Channel over ATA) drives. Configure any configuration of FATA and Fibre Channel drives to suit your business needs.

Performance

The DS6000 systems provide over 1600Mbps of throughput for fast access to data, on demand. In addition, the system software utilizes the four available data paths to route & re-route traffic to the most efficient path available, making the system ideal for transaction-orientated and other bandwidth intensive storage application that require top-notch performance.

Availability

Multi-pathing software included with the IBM DS6000 maximizes the availability of data by providing features such as automatic path failover, and dynamic I/O load balancing across multiple paths. The four paths of the DS6000 not only improve performance, they also protect against single, double, and triple hardware failures.

The dual RAID controllers and choice of various RAID levels combine with an architecture with many redundant, hot-swappable components further protect data while preventing failure.
