Formerly referred to as the FAStT 900 Storage Server, the DS4500 is an enterprise-class storage server that provides superior flexibility and capacity in a cost-effective package.

The DS4500 features 2Gbps Fibre Channel connectivity and the ability to intermix a variety of Fibre Channel and SATA disk drives so businesses can create a combination of price, performance and capacity that meets their requirements.

The advanced features of the DS4500 disk systems include the ability to partition the system into up to 64 virtual servers, allowing multiple applications to share disk capacity, minimizing administrative tasks while maximizing hardware utilization.

The IBM DS4500 comes with the DS4000 storage manager software, which provides administrators with a Web-based interface to configure and monitor storage remotely, customizing and changing setting, define mapping, tune performance, and handle routine maintenance, and dynamically add new enclosures, drives and capacity to existing volumes.

The DS4500 also supports other tools that can help businesses manage storage, such as FlashCopy, which can create immediate point-in-time copies. Enhanced Remote Mirroring includes Global Mirroring and Asynchronous Consistency for mirroring of multi-LUN applications. VolumeCopy is another feature that allows you to create a point-in-time full copy of a logical drive.
