Formerly referred to as the FAStT 600 Storage Server, is an enterprise-class storage server that provides superior flexibility and capacity in a cost-effective package.
The DS4300 Express editions are an array of various configurations and options that are optimized and priced for small and medium-sized businesses.
A single controller IBM DS4300 Express supports up to 4.2TB of Fibre Channel capacity. By attaching three expansion units, the disk systems can offer up to 16.8TB of Fibre Channel storage.
Designed for high performance storage applications, the DS4300 Express features a data transfer rate of up to 400Mbps throughput, for streaming disk reads and fast access to data. A 2Gbps host interface combined with 256MB or 512MB of advanced caching, further optimizes disk performance.
The IBM DS4300 Express comes with the DS4000 Storage Manager, which provides administrators with a Web-based interface to configure and monitor storage remotely, customizing and changing setting, define mapping, tune performance, and handle routine maintenance, and dynamically add new enclosures, drives and capacity to existing volumes.
Other autonomic features such as online firmware upgrades, DS4000 Service Alert and DS4000 Alert Manager, enhances usability, providing enterprise-class features to this midrange-priced disk system.
The DS4300 Express also supports other tools that can help businesses manage storage, such as FlashCopy, which can create immediate point-in-time copies. Enhanced Remote Mirroring includes Global Mirroring and Asynchronous Consistency for mirroring of multi-LUN applications. VolumeCopy is another feature that allows you to create a point-in-time full copy of a logical drive.
The DS4300 Express includes a “turbo” option that includes the DS4000 Storage Manager version 9.15, which enhances the scalability and performance features of this disk system.
An IBM DS4300 with the turbo option expands available capacity in the system to 33.6TB Fibre Channel or 44.8TB of SATA. In addition, performance of the DS4300 is enhanced with the turbo option by boosting the throughput. With he turbo option on the IBM DS4300, the data transfer rate boosts to 768Mbps.
Cache size is expandable to 2GB with the turbo option on the DS4300, and the system can be compatible with 1Gbps Fibre Channel devices, automatically sensing and adapting line speeds to interact with a larger range of devices.
