The IBM DS4100 disk systems enables businesses to procure a product with as little as 1.2TB of storage capacity, that has the capability to scale to up to 44.8TB capacity as businesses needs require.

The DS4100 provides up to four 2Gbps Fibre Channel host ports provide built-in multipath failover and reduces the need for network switches. These low-cost disk arrays from IBM are ideal for consolidation of multiple DAS (direct attached storage) systems into an entry-level SAN solution, as well as nearline storage archival of infrequently-accessed data, and retention managed data applications that require large amounts of capacity.

The IBM DS4100 comes with the DS4000 Storage Manager, which provides administrators with a Web-based interface to configure and monitor storage remotely, customizing and changing setting, define mapping, tune performance, and handle routine maintenance, and dynamically add new enclosures, drives and capacity to existing volumes.

These IBM disk systems include support for multiple RAID levels, and redundant hot-swappable hardware components. The DS4100 also features other resiliency features, such as FlashCopy for immediate point-in-time copies. VolumeCopy is another feature that allows you to create a point-in-time full copy of a logical drive, which can combine with Enhanced Remote Mirroring for disaster recovery scenarios. In addition, Dynamic Volume Expansion provides administrators the ability to resize logical volumes without disruption.
