These servers support up to two 2.8GHz high-performance Opteron processors in each blade, delivering computing power in extremely high densities for HPC (high performance computing) applications.
Utilizing AMD Opteron CPUs in your blade server infrastructure with the IBM LS21 blade servers delivers performance, density and availability into your blade infrastructure.
These blade servers also feature high-performance features such as VLP (very low profile) memory that maximizes the memory capacity for dense computing environments. The BladeCenter LS21 servers include expansion capabilities for Fibre Channel, Ethernet, Myrinet and Infiniband. The LS21 supports 64-bit applications, but has Intel® Extended Memory 64 Technology™ to support 32-bit applications, and smooth the transition to 64-bit computing.

The LS21 blade servers support a single 36.4GB or 73.4GB internal SAS hard drive, and supports the Storage and I/O Expansion (SIO) blade, allowing it to support up to three additional, hot-swappable SFF SAS hard drives. This SIO blade also supports RAID-5 and battery-backed cache.
The LS21 for IBM BladeCenter supports 95W CPUs as well as new, high-efficiency 68W CPUs to help control power consumption.
The integrated Gigabit Ethernet controllers are TCP/IP Offload Engine-enabled, and support teaming and failover. The included midplane connections featured redundant paths to the midplane’s integrated switching and power modules.
IBM’s BladeCenter LS21 servers include IBM Director, a set of management tools that deliver advanced, proactive management capabilities to maximize IT staff productivity and provide rock-solid reliability. The LS21 AMD Opteron blade servers also include an integrated system management processor ,to further maximize server availability by continuing monitoring the system, and alerting administrators to changes and potential system failures.
The IBM Director and Director Extensions that come standard with the IBM LS21 blade servers include the IBM Remote Deployment Manager, to simplify and automate server deployment and redeployment.
IBM’s XpandOnDemand™ capability allows you to “pay as you grow” and Light path diagnostics provide you with a quick and easy way to troubleshoot your blade server infrastructure, maximizing uptime and availability. Calibrated Vectored Cooling™ maintains the health of your system by keeping components cool, so you can maximize compute density.
